Seville Airport Transfer to Portimão

Praia da Rocha, the beach resort, lies a little south of the city centre, with reddish cliffs and a clifftop promenade above the sand. In Portimão, sardines are grilled on the riverfront. Ferragudo, a fishing village, faces the city across the Arade.

By road, you leave Spain at Ayamonte, cross the Guadiana on the International Bridge and continue on the A22. Portugal is one hour behind Spain, so your phone will probably change the time as you cross.

Enter the hotel name and the neighbourhood, so that the driver goes to the right part of the coast. Praia da Rocha and the city centre are close, but they are different addresses.

Portimão has a museum inside a former sardine cannery, the Museu de Portimão, which shows what life on the production line was like. Above Praia da Rocha stands the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, a small fort with a view along the coast. The Sardine Festival takes place in August.

If you are staying west of the city, for example in Alvor, enter that address instead. Alvor is a separate village, with its own beach and lagoon.

Faro is the nearest airport to Portimão, so Seville makes sense when its flights suit your dates or fares. The Algarve railway has a station in Portimão, but Praia da Rocha is a separate ride from it, and getting from Seville by public transport means more than one change. With bags, a transfer from the arrivals hall to the hotel door is the simpler way to cross the border.
